Rubberband was founded on Jan. 01, 2015. But here I also want to write a little about the time before that date, especially about the progressing technology of music-playback. I experienced a lot and I am happy about it, because by this I can really appreciate today's comfort in recording.
In the same time computational techniques have developed from the slide rule to hand calculators to powerful computer-networks.
In music we (my brother and me) recorded in the beginning by means of a "magnetophon" from the radio. A magnetophon works with tape spools and microphone. When recording you have to be very quiet. Again and again we listened to music from the tape recorder. A jump to another song was impossible (no "random access").
Then my brother bought a cassette recorder, a Kapsch KR 315, a really good device. It was so unusual to us that we could speak during recording, because the recording was done inside the device.
Soon there was a pile of cassettes. We recorded everything that sounded good to our ears. The main sources were the Austrian "Ö3-Hitparade" and the "American Top 40".
We listened to the recorded music again and again. I discovered a strange effect: Some songs that did not sound so good at first, became earworms, and vice versa. And: We always knew which song would be the next. When we heard a song from our cassette somewhere else, we missed the next song!
Although I heard some songs very often, I could not understand all lyrics. But I wanted to know them. (Since there is this movie "27 Dresses", I am comforted: even "native Speakers" have their problems. "Electric boots" is sung as "Electric boobs"...) Nowadays you just start an App on your mobile phone and you get title, singer and lyrics - what a difference.
Information about the artists was rare. In rainbow magazines they were sometimes presented as bad examples for young people. A certain Elton John was totally ignored in Austria. Due to his weird appearance in the movie "Tommy" I even thought, this is only a fake character. Thanks to "Bravo", the young people's magazine number 1 in those days - where there was at least a minimum of stories about the pop heroes.
When I was a student I bought a hi-fi equipment (that had problems to find a place in my tiny room) and from now on the whole world of music was accessible for me. The first LP that I bought was Small Faces "Lazy Sunday", then Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". The lyrics were printed in full length! And more than that: there were pictures, cartoons, stories!
Later there was the world of CDs. A giant relief to finally hear music without scratches. My first CD was Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms", with these laid-back songs - and no scratch. A little drawback: The print of the lyrics is so tiny and hard to read.
I was not only consumer of contemporary pop-music, but I also learned to play the piano for myself. I really loved the keys. So finally my parents bought an upright piano for me. Later I bought an electric piano from Technics with an exceptional good sound-quality and the option to record the played music on diskette.
2015, when I saw the chance to write songs myself, my motivation to play the keys rose tremendously. I bought a keyboard that offered a lot of possibilities to create and record songs. Additional I use a special track-recorder. With such a device one can mix the final song from single tracks.
After my long "history" with pop music it is a special feeling for me to produce songs for myself and to release them on YouTube.

Rubberband wurde am 1.1.2015 gegründet. Ich will hier aber auch über die Zeit davor ein bisschen berichten, insbesondere über die fortschreitenden Technologien der Musik-Wiedergabe. Ich habe hier sehr viel kennengelernt und bin froh darüber, denn so weiß ich mir den aktuellen Komfort bei den Aufnahmen zu schätzen.
Parallel dazu hat sich in der Rechentechnik der Rechenschieber über erste Taschenrechner bis hin zu leistungsfähigen Computer-Netzwerken entwickelt.
In der Musik haben wir (mein Bruder und ich) am Anfang noch mit einem "Magnetophon" Musik aus dem Radio aufgenommen und immer wieder angehört. Ein Magnetophon arbeitet mit Tonbandspulen und Mikrophon. Man musste also beim Aufnehmen ganz leise sein.
Dann kaufte mein Bruder einen Kassettenrekorder Kapsch KR 315. Ein wirklich gutes Gerät. Es war ungewohnt, nun bei der Aufnahme reden zu können, denn diese erfolgte geräteintern direkt auf die Kassette.
Es stapelten sich die Kassetten. Wir nahmen alles auf, was uns gefiel. Meistens von der "Ö3-Hitparade" oder von den "American Top 40".
Nachher hörten wir die Kassetten immer und immer wieder an und ich entdeckte damals schon einen sonderbaren Effekt: Ein Song, der mir nicht gleich so ganz ins Ohr gehen wollte, entwickelte sich oft zu einem Ohrwurm (und umgekehrt). Außerdem konnten wir bei jedem Song bereits sagen, welcher der nächste war. Wenn wir den Song wo anders hörten, ging uns der Nachfolge-Song regelrecht ab.
Obwohl ich manche Songs sehr oft hörte, konnte ich nicht immer alle Texte verstehen. Sie interessierten mich aber brennend. (Seit es den Film "27 Dresses" gibt, bin ich getröstet - es geht auch "native Speakers" so. "Electric boots" wird als "Electric boobs" mitgesungen...) Jetzt lässt man einfach das Handy den Song "hören" und man bekommt sofort Titel, Interpret und Text - welch ein Unterschied.
Informationen über die Musiker gab es wenig. In Illustrierten wurden sie meist als schlechte Beispiele für die Jugend dargestellt. Ein gewisser Elton John wurde in Österreich vollständig ignoriert. Durch sein seltsames Auftreten in "Tommy" dachte ich sogar, es handelt sich um eine Kunstfigur. Nur hin und wieder gab es Informationen im "Bravo", der damaligen Jugendzeitung Nummer 1.
Als Student kaufte ich eine Stereo-Anlage (die kaum in mein enges Zimmer passte) und plötzlich stand mir die ganz Welt der Musik offen. Meine erste LP war von den Small Faces ("Lazy Sunday"), dann "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" von Elton John. Die Texte waren hier voll abgedruckt!
Später kamen die CDs. Eine große Erleichterung, kratzerfreie Musik hören zu können. Meine erste CD war "Brothers in Arms" von Dire Straits, mit diesen ruhigen Songs - endlich ohne Knacksen. Nur: Die Texte sind hier zwangsweise leider sehr klein abgedruckt.
Ich war aber nicht nur ein Konsument von kontemporärer Pop-Musik, sondern ich lernte auch selber Klavier und die Liebe zu den Tasten. Meine Eltern kauften ein Pianino, worüber ich mich sehr freute. Später kaufte ich ein elektrisches Piano von Technics mit sehr guter Klang-Qualität und der Möglichkeit, das Gespielte auf Diskette aufzunehmen.
Als ich 2015 die Möglichkeit sah, selber Songs zu machen, wurde meine Motivation für die Tasten vervielfacht. Ich kaufte ein Keyboard, das viele Möglichkeiten bietet, Songs zu kreieren und aufzunehmen. Ich verwende zusätzlich einen Rekorder, mit dem fast beliebig viele Spuren aufgenommen werden können. Diese lassen sich zum fertigen Song mischen.
Für mich ist es ein besonderes Gefühl, nach meiner "Vorgeschichte" jetzt selber Musik zu produzieren und über YouTube veröffentlichen zu können.
